Tributes for

Antonelli, John

John Louis Antonelli
Passed away peacefully at Zen Hospice in San Francisco, August 14, 2014 at the age of 87.

Beloved husband of the late Margery, loving father of Diane, Frank and Virginia; dear grandfather of Laura and father-in-law of Jack. He is also survived by his brother, Frank.

John was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 1943 he moved to San Francisco with his parents, Louis and Mary. He lettered in Gymnastics at Crane Tech and graduated from Galileo High School in 1945, the year he enlisted in the US Coast Guard.

In 1947, he started working as a shipping clerk at Morgan and Allen where he was promoted to salesman. In 1962, he joined the Bulova Watch Company where he served with pride and distinction until he retired in 1989.

In 1950, he met Margery, the love of his life. They married in 1951. Over the course of the next 39 years they raised a family, enjoyed traveling together and were each other's biggest cheerleader. Starting in 1990, he devotedly nursed her through a serious illness until she passed away in 1999.

John dedicated the remainder of his life to his children, granddaughter and brother. Family always came first with him.

John was generous, blunt, loyal, a trusted friend, natural athlete and sports fan. A treasured memory was being in Candlestick Park with his kids when Dwight Clark of the San Francisco 49ers made "the catch". He loved driving, singing, picnics, movies, the family dog, Ted, bar tending Sunday happy hour, picking up the check, telling a joke and giving thoughtful advice.

John's family extends sincere thanks to their father's cardiologist, Dr. Ronald Witteles of Stanford University Medical Center.

Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19th at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, with the Funeral Service to start at 11 a.m. The Committal will follow at Italian Cemetery, 540 F. Street, Colma.
