Alano, Ursula

Ursula K Alano, 90, passed away peacefully at her San Francisco home, Sunday, June 26, 2016. She is with God and joins her husband Emil who preceded her in death. Ursula was the youngest of three born to Eusebio and Esperanza Alano in Pateros, Philippines. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1927 crossing the vast Pacific Ocean by ship.
Ursula's childhood helped to shape her welcoming and warm personality as she made many lifelong friends within the multi-faceted cultures of San Francisco. Ursula married Emil, her lifelong partner of 55 years, in December 1946. Together they welcomed their seven children, their spouses, fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren into their lives. Ursula, Mother of her children, Maureen (George Zolinsky); Brenda; Edward (late); Marta (Robert Porter); Kevin (Bernadette St. Marie); Patricia (Juan Jayo); and Emile (Lisa Wong). Emil and Ursula were also well known for their welcome, hospitality, and sponsorship of many nieces, nephews and cousins coming to the United States.
Ursula's life vocations included her untiring faith in God; faithfulness and love of her spouse Emil; and love, charity, care and nurturing of family and friends. She was a faithful member of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church congregation sharing herself with others as a choral & bible studies member and founding member of the Filipino Association at Star of the Sea (FAASTAR).
A Vigil service will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 6:30 pm at the Evergreen Mortuary of McAvoy-O'Hara Company, Geary Blvd. at 10th Ave, S. F., CA 94118. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 22nd at 12:00 pm noon, at Star of the Sea Church, 4420 Geary Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94118. Her burial will follow at Cypress Lawn cemetery.
